Stage 2 - Fundamentals
OVERVIEW
The most important focus of this stage is to emphasize fun and enjoyment when playing tennis for boys/girls ages 5-8/5-9. While participating in other sports to develop fundamental motor skills, the child begins to show a preference for tennis as his/her sport of choice. The child enjoys and acquires basic tennis skills while playing progressive tennis. At the end of the stage, the child is playing with the proper racquet, the right ball and on the appropriate sized court executing the game with proper fundamentals.

Try/Learn Programs Play Opportunities
Learn to Play The Learn to Play program is designed to build a solid foundation for future success and promote enjoyment and improvement in tennis. All lessons in the program use the Progressive Tennis system of modified courts and balls designed for the age or skill level of the players. In each stage; red, orange and green there are 2 six week lesson plans with corresponding awards for Red level 1 and 2. PHE Schools Program Tennis for Schools is a national program for Grades 1-2, 3-5 and 6-8 that supports the development of fundamental movement skills related to the sport of tennis, while increasing student knowledge and appreciation for the sport. Tennis for schools is a teacher resource for both specialist and non-specialist physical education teachers in Canadian elementary, middle and junior high schools. |
Rogers Rookie Tour The Rogers Rookie Tour is an entry level competitive program designed to provide the novice player with a fun competitive experience. It provides juniors up to the age of 18 an opportunity to play in competitions which guarantees multiple matches.
Minor League Implementation Guide The purpose of this manual is to provide league organizers all the necessary information to run a successful league. This program is an integral part of Tennis Canada’s mission of growing the game and as well ensuring the love of tennis is instilled at a young age.

In an effort to increase both the number and quality of young players playing the game of Tennis, Tennis Canada has developed a recruitment, motor skills, and tennis development program that are intended primarily for children 5 to 7 years of age. On the day of the event every child is run through a battery of 13 skills that measures gross motor skills. Children who achieve the highest scores overall will receive an invitation to train in a year round Little Aces tennis program during which they develop their physical, athletic and tennis skills under the supervision of experts who conduct regular follow-ups with them.

1/2 & 3/4 Curriculum The purpose of the 1/2 and 3/4 court training program is to provide facilitators with a curriculum to effectively implement a ½ court progressive tennis program which will ultimately lead to children learning quickly, playing successfully and having fun.

U9 ¾ Court Advanced Tour The U9 Advanced Tour is an event for Advanced U9 junior players who are oriented towards the competitive stream of tennis. The Tournaments are played on a 3/4 court (Orange court and Orange ball) with a lowered net which allows for the kids to compete on a court more suited to their size. |

U8 Provincial Training Centre Program The primary purpose of the Provincial/Regional regrouping program is to regroup the Province's top young players with supplementary developmental training opportunities outside the players' club/academy program, and preparing those players for future high level competitions. |
U10 Full Court Advanced Tour The U10 Advanced Tour is an event for competitive oriented U10 junior players who are ready for full court competition using the green transition ball.
