University and College Athlete Opportunity
Attention Coaches,
Tennis Canada is currently seeking University and College level athletes to participate in the first annual Canadian University and College Campus Tennis Challenge (s) in Fredericton, New Brunswick (March 29-31, 2013) and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (May 17-19, 2013). Tennis Canada is working diligently with various other Provincial Tennis Associations to offer Canadian university and college athletes the opportunity to participate in the first annual Campus Tennis Challenge events. These tournaments are available to all universities and colleges in Canada; however, our primary focus is on schools currently without a varsity or club tennis program and schools that do not compete in the National Championships (this includes regular season play and regional qualifications). These tournaments are fun and exhilarating and will provide athletes with a high level of competition while focusing on the development and growth of university and college tennis across the country, promote fair play, and continuously build friendships.
In order to be eligible, players must be enrolled full time at an accredited post secondary institution. Teams should consist of a minimum of 2 males and 2 females with no maximum. Schools are permitted to submit more than one team, should they wish to. Each fixture will consist of 5 matches. The match formats include:
- Men’s Singles
- Women’s Singles
- Men’s Doubles
- Women’s Doubles
- Mixed Doubles
Please note that all teams are to be self funded and athletes will be responsible for their own travel costs, meals, and accommodations. There will be a $50.00 registration fee for each athlete that will be paid at the time of registration. Tennis Canada will contribute financially and make efforts to ensure that registration costs are kept low.
Registration deadlines are:
- Fredericton, NB – Friday March 8, 2013
- Saskatoon, SK – Friday April 26, 2013
If you know of any current students that might be interested in participating or anyone interested in coaching a team in either of these events, please have them contact Andrew Yates at ayates@tenniscanada.com for more information.
