TPA Introduces New Under 10 Development Coaching Award
Toronto, December 10, 2012 – The Tennis Professionals Association (TPA) announced on Monday the introduction of the Paul & Joyce Chapnick Under 10 Development Coaching Scholarship, a new award to be presented each year to a TPA coach aged 35 years or younger who has demonstrated excellence in the under-10 player development area.
The award comes with a $2,000 scholarship, which will help offset the costs of professional development courses and seminars, including international, national, and provincial conferences and/or certification courses approved by Tennis Canada.
Several criteria will be used in selecting the winner of this award, including: coaching under-10 players who have competed in the U9/U10 advanced tour, coaching under-10 players who have been selected for the provincial or national training programs, being actively involved with the club’s top U10 players and progressive programming, and being involved in running U9 and U10 provincial sanctioned tournaments. Applicants must also display a commitment of excellence towards the coaching profession, be a full-time coach or working towards a full-time career, espouse the values of fair play, professionalism, honesty, and integrity, and be aged 35 years or younger.
Applicants must submit the following items to be considered for the scholarship: One-page resume; one-page letter expressing their goals; letter of reference from their employer; a testimonial from the parent of an under-10 player they are coaching regularly; and a letter of approval from their provincial association. The deadline to apply is February 1, 2013.
The Paul & Joyce Chapnick Under 10 Development Coaching Scholarship joins the list of other awards the TPA hands out annually, including Coach of the Year, Pro of the Year, Facility of the Year, Course Facilitator of the Year, Service to the Game Award, and the Gary Caron Scholarship.
