Toronto, September 8, 2014 – Tennis Canada announced Monday the results from a 2014 national research study on the health of the sport of tennis in Canada. The study shows that in the past 12 months, more than 6.5 million Canadians played tennis at least once. This is a 32% increase over 2012 when the last participation numbers were tracked. Popularity of the sport is also on the rise with 51% of Canadians saying they are either somewhat or very interested in the sport, up from 38% in 2012. For more information, click here.

Toronto, November 8, 2013 – Tennis Canada announced Friday that highly-respected coach and former professional tennis player Paul Annacone will be the headlining guest speaker at the 2014 Tennis Professionals Association (TPA) Conference, to be held at the Centre of Excellence at Rexall Centre in Toronto on February 20. Annacone’s visit also coincides with the TPA’s 10th anniversary celebrations, which will be marked at the conference.

August 19, 2013- The Tennis Professionals Association (TPA) hit a new milestone on Sunday, as it reached the 2,800-member mark. Dedicated to growing the profession of tennis coaching in Canada, the TPA was introduced by Tennis Canada in 2004 to assist the nation’s certified instructors, coaches, and club professionals. The TPA began with 800 members and has more than tripled its size since then – growing its member base every year. On Monday August 5th and Tuesday August 6th, the TPA in conjunction with the PTR, hosted the 2nd Club Leaders Conference for Tennis Directors, Head Professionals and Program Leaders. Over 25 participants attended the 2-day conference who enjoyed presentations from Inga Andriessen, Wayne Elderton, Jeff McCarrol, Paul Standen, Gary Caron and Dan Santorum. All participants enjoyed 15 hours of course material from industry leaders as well as meals and Rogers Cup action from our private TPA suite. On Tuesday August 6th and Wednesday August 7th, the TPA hosted our annual TPA Days during the Rogers Cup in Toronto and Montreal, which saw over 25 in attendance as well. The Tennis Professionals Association (TPA) is proud to present the annual TPA Days during the Rogers Cup in Toronto on August 6 at Veneto Tennis Club and in Montreal on August 7 at Stade Uniprix. These workshops will run from 9am-5pm and count as full recertification opportunities. Both workshops include a light lunch and afternoon tennis in the TPA suite during the Rogers Cup. The 15th annual Quebec Coaching Conference presented by the TPA took place on June 13 and 14 at Stade Uniprix in Montreal. Over 60 people witnessed various on court presentations from top tennis professionals from around the country. The event featured presentations by Andre Parent, David Marandon, Wayne Elderton, Marcel Lacroix, Cora Tsouflidou and Conrad Pineau. Various topics included physical preparation, different types of serves, the pursuit of excellence and many more. Two coaches from Quebec, Robby Menard and Jean-David Blanchette, were recognized in front of their peers for TPA Awards won earlier this year. The TPA would like to thank all who attended for a very successful conference.
On May 24th, the Tennis Professionals Association (TPA) held a TPA/TDC Coaching Workshop at Cedar Hill Recreation in Victoria, BC. Over 20 participants enjoyed the presentations from Tennis Canada’s Director of High Performance Club & Talent Development Christophe Lambert on U10 & U12 training. On December 4, the TPA in conjunction with Tennis BC hosted the final professional development opportunity of 2012 in North Vancouver at Grant Connell Tennis Centre. A total of 36 coaches attended the workshop presented by Tracy Bennet, Wayne Elderton and Larry Jurovich. All participants were exposed to development principles and techniques for the return of serve while witnessing their application with juniors to professional players. Special thanks to all who came out! Throughout 2012, the TPA offered over 30 professional development opportunities of which over 1000 coaches participated in one or more.

On May 5th and 6th a total of 42 coaches from British Columbia and Alberta attended a full day TPA recertification opportunity of how to successfully introduce and implement Cardio Tennis programming to their students and club membership. This high energy aerobic drill and game based structured format, was delivered by Michele Krause manager of Cardio Tennis U.S.A. The participants had the opportunity to wear individual heart rate monitors during the warm up, workout and cool down segments, which enhanced their self motivation as they could now see the calories they had expended during an actual one hour on court session. All had a fantastic time and left with the tools necessary to begin a Cardio Tennis program in their local communities. Once again this TPA development opportunity was an overwhelming success.
